Progression of a Gift

Earlier this summer I drew a gift art for DeKay on deviantArt and when I got to inking and coloring I took photos. After finally clearing my laptop's memory card I found the photos I'd taken. Just tossing them up here showing how I colored it in. From left to right the characters are DeKay as herself, Orchestra Man, Benji and Devon. It's nothing fancy, but every now and again I like taking photos of things I've worked on. Cheers.

Last Few Sketches

Just the last few images I scanned a month ago. I have some new things, and I'll get to taking photos of things from my art class and post those here and on dA.



-I was messing around with a different inking style in this one. I was trying a faster stroke, like Steven Sanchez uses, he has some video tuts posted. I didn't really care for my result with them...but I took some pens I had, i think the prisma color fine liners, and tossed some colors on people. Alphabet rocking the polka-dot bandanna. Alexis looking pissed as shit at the world. Young Umenosuke, Daisuke's son, not that he appears in the conventional Travelers story as anything other than an infant, if he shows up. Super Villain, Exile, from Rogue Gallery...missing his lower body...oh well =D And a little headshot of Methvin. I didn't have the right pens for his hair here...but the darker brown is acceptable.


- I decided I wanted to draw Alphabet as a kid, so here she is. I liked the idea of her playing with a helicopter and making the appropriate sounds. Too adorable. There she is a bit older commentating on her insanity. Ahh, the big fire. I don't know what the three of them set on fire, but their expressions are perfect for their personalities. Davey is defensive, Alphabet is sheepish and Smyth is horrified and trying to explain what happened. Finally, there's a young Alphabet trying to sneak a puppy into her home, and her father sneaking up on her. He's where she gets her personality from, her playfulness and what not. She's a total Daddy's girl, odd, because I was the furthest thing from that. I really like his expression because he knows he's about to scare the shit out of his little girl.



-So, over the summer AtomicStoney posted a pic of her Mew character. I liked the design and scribbled this out. I didn't lik how the paw came out so I never finished it. I would have colored it with markers if I had finished it. She's supposed to be at the beach. I might have added some silly and horrible beach type background, but it's not finished. She's offering her can of soda to the camera. I thought it was an interesting pose, not really something I've done before.




-These doodles are of different things. On the left are two sketches of Leif, a character from Travelers. He's the son of Alexis' parent's boss. He was actually her charge, even thought she's only three years his senior. They were friends. The chibis in the upper right are Marren and Daisuke's sister. Her name keeps changing, I couldn't remember the original first name, so I have had her unnamed for a while. In the middle making a sexy pose is Idrissa. He was a fan character for an RPG, but I have since stopped playing there, again. I still like his design, so he's a No World character until I find a new use for him. At the bottom is another drawing of Marren looking like a pissy bitch. And the bottom right Marren and his gf, Daisuke's Sister bieng all happy and cute together.

Sketch Dump

Here, have some images that aren't related whatsoever. I don't like 'em enough for dA, but I still want to share. This is actually just about the last of my scans from the end of September. I have some little new things, but not much.

-1 Starting off classy, back in the summer I decided to draw Ficusxander and Limon Jazz in Cinema style. Limon has a wanted poster for the two of them and is proud of it. I'm still not sure why she's proud, but I accept it. Second is Ficusxander drunk because drawing his silly ass drunk amuses me. That is one angry looking canine right there. He needs to take a chill pill, fo sho'.


-2 I wanted to draw someone in knickers. The original idea for this woman was that it was Alphabet, but that didn't work out in the end, so it's just some random chick.













-3 I was tired and wanted some coffee, and to sleep, so what did I do? Drew me with a cup of coffee and dozing with Daisuke. hadn't drawn Dai in a while, so it was fun drawing him again. I like the inking off the one of me with coffee, except for the black behind me. It bothers me that the lines weren't straight.


-4 I had the idea of drawing all the Cinema characters dancing or otherwise performing a song i think, after driving back to Norfolk from home. I was trying to match the songs to my characters. On the bottom the chick with the 'fro was Alphabet, but she is now Ria. Man, she's put on weight, ha ha ha. But because of this song, her personality became what it is now, tough and no holds bar. I like the one of her with the long thin scarf on the bottom right of the three. This girl has had an interesting evolution in her design.


-5 This if when I decided that Ria needed to be big and busty. She's also short, like 5'2", and considering Az and Wren are about 5'7" she looks even shorter. I like the profile of her in the middle, and the one with her in a bikini. I like that she's comfortable in her body, but she's not slutty about it. Yes, she wears glasses, but also has contacts. They're cat-eyed because I thought they fit her personality more.


-6 Here I was working on her personality and interaction with Wren and Az. Since I did make her all 'black power' and all she will go up to the two of them and say 'hey crackas' or some other derogatory name for whites. They in turn, will use other epithets, but they're friends. They don't mean it. On the bottom is a sketch inspired by watching the history channel. History is something that Sephy likes, so she would be two feet away from the tv watching documentaries.



-7 So, the three of them meet in college. They're suitmates, so drawing them as 18 years old was amusing. I tried drawing them looking older, but it failed.Hmm, really not much to say about this one. Az looks really manly here?



-8 This is a drawing of Methvin I did once I had his design down a bit more. I didn't like how his second hand came out, so it didn't get inked. This is how I figured the texture for his hair. His colors are those of fall and Reese's Pieces, yellows, oranges and browns, tans and the like. I do like how this looks over all, for the most part. Cheers!


-9 A page of Methvin drawings I did to figure out what he was going to look like. This was drawn before the other one. Hmm, I like that he's a sci-fi dork. I really want to draw him in Star Trek get up again, but you know, color it. In the middle is Methvin with Scripps, I was trying to get their heights down correctly. He is shorter than Scripps, but it's alright. He's more shy and a lot less cocksure than Scripps is. He'll smoke cigarettes and weed, but won't shoot up heroin and he doesn't do meth. Considering some of his friends call him 'Meth' he won't do it. And he hates being called Crystal, because his friend will call him that too.

Cinematic Sketches

I don't update this one enough, but now I am. Here, have some sketches I liked enough to scan, but not enough to put up on dA. These are little things from Cinema that I liked, but still, not enough to dA.

- Not too long after I'd watched M*A*S*H did I draw this. I fell in love with the movie and loved it's perverted jokes and all the things that were wrong with it. I loved the things that people who liked the show didn't like. I liked the show, but looking at people's comments on Amazon, you'd think they'd expect something different from a rated-R movie from the 70s when compared to the network sitcom it turned into. Doodled here is Sephy as Trapper [Sam Gould] I tried drawing Hawkeye and Trapper, but they kinda look ehh. Hot Lips/Sephy as Hot Lips looks just as disgusted as she should


-Up on top is actually Icarus and Lena. I don't know why she has such sexy bedroom eyes, they're not that close, but ehh. I was still working on her hair here.

Below is Beta and Alpha in a sweet moment. I assume they were talking about something before the picture, I dunno. Maybe Beta is calming Alpha down.Their faces aren't all that successful here.


- So, this was drawn not too long after I'd watched all three Godfather flicks. This is when Alpha got her love of Pacino flicks. Seriously, Cinema is where I showcase my love of movies with different characters, but here she's dressed as Michael Corleone in the upper left. That's supposed to be Davey kissing her hand, but it is fail. Bottom left she's Scarface. Very fail, I hate that sketch. In the upper left of the image is Davey in normal Cinema style, and my practicing drawing the Cinema characters in a more closer to 'normal' human proportions. He looks too bishi here, but it's not all together a failed drawing, he's just not pretty boy material. Bottom right, Aster is complaining about letting Alpha watch Pacino movies, and I can't remember what Sephy is doing. I think she was supposed to be Kay (Godfather) but I really can't remember.


- I drew my characters for the Age Meme. The first three of Alphabet are fine, the last one is fail. I actually really like her 13year old sketch with the frog. I don't like her 25 year old sketch at all, it doesn't fit her personality enough. Davey looks bald at a 5 year old, he's actually rocking a bowl cut. I didn't share his hair because I didn't want the lead to smear in the sketchbook. 13 year old him is awful. 17 year old him is fine-ish, he looks like he got out of a shower or something stupd. 15 year old has apparently grown into a capable adult...don't believe it! Last is Smyth, yeah, his hair was brushed like that as a kid. Feel bad for him.


- I'm amused by 13 year old Smyth shaving. I'm not to sure on his need for shaving then... 17 year old Smyth is awesome. He looks angry and annoyed and is reading 'Quantum Physics for Geniuses'. Yes, I was amused by that book title. 25 year old Smyth is a haggard grad assistant in college. He gets no sleep apparently. And apparently thinks that ugly goatee will score him some brownie points with the ladies. It doesn't.
So, Sephy. She had normal enough hair as a 5 year old. At 13 she was emo, her shirt says 'I wish my lawn was emo so it would cut itself." She's confident and happy at 17 after spending time to Alpha and crew, and apparently has progressed into needing glasses. She doesn't have them at 16. She's awful at 25, ignore it!!!

Sketch Trade Sketches and Final

Here are the sketches I did for the sketch trade with Seph-Hunter on dA. I've already posted the final, but I did like the doodles. Cowbo Seph amuses me, but I like the 'FUCK' belt the most. Hidden secret, in the final, his belt buckle still says 'FUCK' you just can't see it...The little doodles on the side, from bottom to top is one of Seph singing 'Thriller' ..the song came on while i was doodling....I think it's apropos that the face to it's right is angry about singing Thriller. The final to little doodles are of Ficusxander the Great next to Seph because with how I was drawing Seph it reminded me of Ficus the Great. I like that scarf for some absurd reason...

This image is the completed picture! Cheers! It's Adventurer Seph, but I wish I had a more detailed outfit. A cloak and maybe a scarf. And a weapon because you're kind of a fail adventurer without some way to protect your self.
I like the sketchy inking, it helps it feel like a sketch.

Cinema

Over the past month or so I got really really into drawing stuff for Cinema once more. I've contemplated re-drawing the comic to do as a webcomic, and I still have the time to get the ball rolling. I still have the Smackjeeves page, that I'll redesign with my improved style, but I think it'll still have the idiotic yellow and orange. That's a deep part of Cinema, it also helps to remind me that it's not a dark world. No matter how bitchy Davy and Sephy may try to be, and I guess Micha, in whatever extent he'd be in the comic.

But, this morning I have a few pieces, some works in progress, along with some finished pieces that have been posted on deviant art. Let's get going :)


First, this was just going to be a mock up for a fake cover, but I liked it enough to really finish it. This has already been redrawn on better paper. But my original idea for this was a mock cover, like for a published legit comic. They were also originally lost in come foreign location. What I like from here is Alpha's take charge pose, Davey' Freddy Kruger like shirt, and 'i don't wanna be here' expression. I really freakin' love Sephy's pose, her insecurity came through amazingly here. Don't like much about Smyth here. H came out poorly. What I hate about the whole piece, they're too short, especially with the exaggeratedly long and slender proportions that Cinema is designed in. And they all came out on the effing' fugly side.



The redesigned image is a billion times better. Alpha's pose is more like she's explaining the obvious to Davey. Davey's expression is an awesome mixture of boredom and irritation with having Alpha talk to him like he's some sot of mongoloid idiot child. Sephy is the bad part of this piece. Where she was glowingly awesome before, I was unable to get the insecurity going here, when inked I may move her hand, that might improve what her personality should be. She just looks haggared. Smyth is awesome here and that newspaper doesn't suck too hard. I'll sketch in a BG after they're inked. That should be fine. At the moment, I kind of want to finish this with markers, but I'll try to scan the inks before that so I can try it in photoshop too. This was drawn on my fancy Canson FanBoy bristol type paper for archival awesome.


Here we have the cast of Cinema hanging out inside some CDs. I was bored, watching..possibly Dead Like Me in late May and drawing up a storm. This happened. I like the idea, but the final piece isn't much to look at. The only one I like is Smyth[bottom left] and that's because he's actually in the Cinema Style. I think I spaced Alpha's[upper left] face wrong and that's hat I really don't like. I love the shading on Sephy's [upper right] hair, the highlight is beautiful. But something isn't right about hers. Davey[bottom right] is just horrible. I don't like that hair style on him anymore, I barely liked it before, and his eyes aren't right for the style. He's too pointy.



Two of the couples from Cinema. The rarely seen or spoken about Beta with Alpha on the left, and the marginally spoken about Aster and Suma. Yeah, Alpha and Beta, I know I'm a dork. Something I really like is Beta's skin, how dark he in. It works out in his favor here, and makes him hella attractive. The bandanna and shades are fucken' hot too. Alpha's face got fucked up somehow...but I think it's mostly in the cheek shape/placement. Aster and Suma are always adorable. I think I got their age difference to look right, Aster is three years younger than Alpha, and two years younger than Suma. Suma is freakin' hot here!I love hoer her hair highlight came out, and her outfit. It's all bloody gorgeous. One think I wish I could fix is Beta's shirt, I couldn't get the green to even out, but it's too late now.


These are mostly paintball related sketches. This was originally sketched in blue pencil, but it wouldn't scan right, so i scanned it in gray so I could see shit. I love sleepy Davey in the top left. I love the attentive Dave next to him, the Daven'y that's about t be shot by Sephy. Yeah! I think that Aster came out adorably, he's got he full body on the left. He's saying 'Fucking Alpha' who's calling him a 'P.O.W.' Aster is actually just there to record the battle, but Alpha decided to take him hostage. Smyth doesn't look too bad, but Davey next to him came out horribly. And at the bottom is a seductively dressed Suma preparing to chuck that paint-filled water-balloon at someone. Possibly Alpha. Unasked question, that little rectangle in Alpha's helmet on the left is a pack of gum. And goggles for the win, and for safety.

Well, that's all my Cinema stuff scanned. I have a head-shot profile page that I meant to scan, but apparently forgot, and I can't access my student folder via the internets at the moment, so that'll go up another time. I have some more things to post here, but those'll have to wait because I would enjoy some sleep. This apparently didn't take as long I thought to post30 min, and I thought I'd been working on this for an hour, but I did post the CDs an the love couples up on dA so maybe typing for that threw me.

Image Progression

Here is a progression of an image of Donovan and Amadeus. They are two of my gay guys from Necropolis. Donovan, on the left is from New York, Ama on the right is from London. The pair meet in their early twenties in med school in New York. They are not lovers, but have a camaraderie in both being gay. I'm imagining that Don looks irritated because of something Solomon, his boyfriend, said before Don with to class and Sol went to work. Ama is probably trying to help, but it appaently isn't working. This isn't a finished sketch, it still needs to be inked then colored. hopefully all to be completed soon.

For the third image I forgot what tool I'd inked with when I went to finish it, which is why the line is so different. I think I like it more like that, so I'll re-ink the left side so it matches the right more. Cheers! Younger Ama calls for a different hair style from older Ama, which is why his hair is short all around. Subject oto change, and Donovan may get a hair cut. Or defluffed...it's too fluffy here

Some Colors

A few things I've worked on in the past few weeks. Some in color, most in pencil. Too lazy to name them, but they can be seen in prior posts.

Chunkies and a Comic

I doodled in this style while watching House last week, on the 16th, liked it, and continued for the rest of the week. It bore this I think on the Wednesday, exile carrying someone. It's so out of proportion that I really don't like it, so it won't get finished. And Exile looks like a failed LBP Sackboy.









Icarus, Zoe, Tone and Idrissa for the PanRPG, in the Chunki style. I'm either going to have to re-scan Icky and Zoe, or when I color it, I'll have to fix them a little.













A simple comic testing my abulity to draw with different perspectives of the same scene. It was a bit more difficult that I expected because I was trying to not show what was being drawn until the last panel. I might try this type of comic again to push my self to draw from more than one POV.

Still, favorite panel is the silhouette.

Bullshit!

Here's some stuff I'm done for an RPG I've gone back to. Nothing fancy, just some sketches from about two weeks ago. I'm too lazy to scan stuff from this week. The RPG is based on a webcomic, Pandect where some animals can earn or are given a human soul and are called 'Aces'.



My guy, Icarus harassing another player's character, for the fuck of it. Enjoy. They're both humans, there are both humans and Aces in the world.

















One of my other guys, Idrissa. He's an Ace of Clymene Dolphin. He's got a pretty upbeat personality. I do want to color him up, in his fancy Ace clothing, but I'm finishing off a few re-designs for him, such as markings.









This is my girl Zoe. She's a human who dyes her hair purple. Not originally doodled for the RPG, just a random doodle from the first week of class, but I had fun drawing her and designing her clothes and personality, I decided to use her in the RPG so I could help flesh out her personality a bit.








More Zoe, and underneath her is a Bat Ace I sketched during my math class.


















This is Tone and Ace of Gila Monster and Idirssa. Tone is just chatting with Idi, acting like an Acely mentor. Nothing really fancy, just playing with their Ace garb and trying to find something that worked with Idi.



This is Zoe again. I color this one...before the really colored one. She's in New York, where she's from. She's a pretty damn upbeat type of girl.

Some Sketches

I was playing around in Sai to make a few sketches for an rpg that I'm a part of. No name for the girl with purple hair...aside from 'girl with purple hair' so that's something i'm going to fix...hopefully soon.








The second image is of Idrissa and Icarus. Idi is an Ace, and Icky is going to be a teacher in the RPG.
